What is Difference the Between Fog and Smog?

Smog  Fog  Haze Vog and Mist are these common words we listen in environmental terms. What is the difference between Mist,  Fog, Smog, Haze, and Vog will be defined below.?

What is the Difference Between Fog and Smog?

Fog:

Fog is condensed water vapor on tinny nuclei or pollutant, thus it is basically a suspended tinny water droplets floating in air.Fog Weather Pics

The droplets scatter light equally at all wavelengths and that makes its appearance as white. The nuclei is basically dust but in cities, thousands of other kinds of particles are there. The difference between fog and smog makes it only idea between these two conditions.

You may also define that If air near the ground becomes saturated and the water vapor in the air condenses into water droplets under certain conditions, then fog occurs. It is simply ‘cloud on ground ‘.

Smog:

Smog is fog plus smoke, it is seen in big cities or we say, in big cities, fog is always a mixture of fog and smog. Pollution because of smog in environmentSmog is blackish in nature usually but its color may change depending upon the color of other pollutants present in the atmosphere.

Smog consists of high density combinations of aerosols and gaseous pollutants. Smog is a term which is a contraction for ‘smoke fog’. Here, smoke plays the part of a condensation nuclei in the condensation process. It may be mentioned here that the ground-level ozone is an air pollutant and it is the key component to smog.

Define Mist,  Fog, Smog, Haze, and Vog:

Mist: A mass of very fine droplets of water in the atmosphere near or in close interaction with the earth.  Water vapor undergoes condensation on and clouding the appearance of a surface. It is known as dispersion – and is most commonly seen where warm, moist air meets in a short space of time cooling, such as in exhaled air in cold mornings in the environment.

Fog: you can see in winter like the  Low lying cloud. Water droplets and ice crystals suspended in the air.  The difference between smog and fog is explain in the first paragraph.

Smog:  Air pollution, when fog is mixed with smoke in the air. Automobiles, Industries, etc. contribute the smoke – chemicals in the smoke-exposed to early morning sunlight forms ozone which is an irritant.

Haze: Also caused by air pollution by fine, widely dispersed, solid or liquid particles, or both, giving the air an opalescent appearance that subdues colors and obscures the clarity in the surroundings.

Vog:  Air pollution caused by volcanic activity.  The mixture of Volcanic ash, smoke, and fog in the atmosphere.
