Diesel & Portable Generator Components and Operation

1. Use of Diesel Generator

A diesel generator is used to generate an electric power supply.

2. Main Parts of Diesel Generator

  1. Diesel engine
  2. Air filter
  3. Fuel tank
  4. Radiator
  5. Engine oil depth gauge
  6. Fuel drain outlet
  7. Engine oil drain outlet
  8. Fuel meter
  9. Coolant drain outlet
  10. Alternator
  11. Circuit breaker
  12. Starter switch
  13. Emergency stop switch
  14. Control screen
  15. Engine oil filter
  16. Dry battery
  17. Fuse (10a)
  18. Exhaust
  19. Diesel filter

3. Operational Procedure of Diesel Generator

  1. Use proper PPE (safety shoes, helmet and face mask).
  2. Open both shutters.
  3. Check fuel, engine oil and radiator water.
  4. Make sure all socket switches are off.
  5. Open control panel door.
  6. Turn the ignition key to start position.
  7. Turn the circuit breaker to “on”.
  8. For shut off the engine first turn the breaker to “off” then rotate the key to “off” position.

4. Safety Precaution of Diesel Generator

  1. Open the right side cabin no.1 for exhaust.
  2. Be sure to set the starter switch to “off” position when the engine stopped.
  3. Breaker can prevent the electric shock. If need to replace, please replace one that has equal degree and performance.
  4. Do not open the radiator cap while the engine is still hot otherwise the coolant will spill out, result in the severe burning.
  5. Disconnect the battery cable at the battery negative (-) terminal, then at the battery positive (+) terminal for cleaning the battery.
  6. Do not operate in confined space or in the building.

5. Use of Portable Generator

Portable Generator is used for generating electric power supply

6. Main Parts of Portable Generator

  1. Main Frame
  2. Carburetor
  3. Ignition switch
  4. Air filter
  5. Fuel tank
  6. AC socket
  7. Engine oil gauge
  8. Alternator
  9. Spark plug
  10. Starter grip
  11. Exhaust
  12. Petrol tap
  13. Choke lever

7. Operational Procedure of Portable Generator

  1. Use proper PPE.
  2. Check fuel and engine oil.
  3. Make sure that disconnect all electrical load from receptacles.
  4. Turn the fuel valve to the “on” position.
  5. If the engine is cold, move choke lever.
  6. Turn the engine switch to the “on” position.
  7. Pull the starter grip lightly until resistance is felt, then pull briskly.
  8. When the engine running move the choke lever back to the “off” position.

8. Safety Precaution of Portable Generator

  1. Keep Work Clean.
  2. Do not operate in confined space or in the building.
  3. Do not operate in the presence of flammable liquids & gases.
  4. When oil level low engine stops immediately.
  5. Be sure there is no spilled fuel around the spark plug. Spilled fuel may ignite.
  6. Exhaust gas contains poisonous carbon monoxide. Shut off the engine before performing any maintenance, if the engine must be run, make sure the area is well ventilated.
